Monthly Economic Snapshot: Updated April 2021
With the recent release of February employment data, we are seeing positive trends in nearly all of our economic indicators. COVID cases overall are better than the previous month, however, OBI joins public health officials and others to urge caution as the case counts have started to trend back upward. To avoid further business restrictions, we all – vaccinated or not – must continue to practice social distancing, limit gatherings, and wear our masks when in public.

As the vaccination becomes more readily available to Oregonians – indeed, Gov. Brown has accelerated the timeline on an almost weekly basis – we are seeing improvements in the state economy. While the impact of business closures is sure to linger for some time, consumer spending and spending in the hard-hit hospitality industries is rebounding. And, while the unemployment rate is decreases as some businesses open back up, we are still seeing a slower recovery for Oregon’s diverse communities.
