On Saturday, April 4, Gov. Kate Brown responded to a call for help from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whose state is impacted particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In her announcement, Gov. Brown wrote, “New York needs more ventilators, and we are answering their call for help. We’ll be sending 140 ventilators to help NY because Oregon is in a better position right now. We must do all that we can to help those on the front lines of this response.”
More than 100,000 New Yorkers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and about 3,500 people have died of coronavirus-related illness in the state. They are facing extreme shortages of medical equipment, as some 15,000 coronavirus patients in New York are hospitalized. More than 4,100 of them are in intensive care, with most needing ventilators.
