On Oct. 24, Oregon state Sen. Elizabeth Steiner, D-Portland, joined OBI Political Affairs Director Preston Mann to discuss her campaign to become Oregon’s next state treasurer. Steiner secured the Democratic nomination for the office during the May primary.

The state treasurer plays an integral role in managing state finances, including the Public Employees Retirement Fund, programs like OregonSaves, and in determining the state’s bonding and debt capacity.

Steiner was appointed to the Oregon Senate in 2001 and was subsequently re-elected four times. Steiner recently co-chaired the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Ways and Means, the state’s budget-writing committee.
