Some Oregon lawmakers have proposed to disconnect Oregon’s tax code partially from the federal tax code in order to prevent individuals and businesses from realizing all of the tax savings provided by H.R. 1, including those that will help the state’s struggling manufacturing sector.
OBI President and CEO recently interviewed Tax Foundation senior fellow Jared Walczak on OBI’s Oregon Business Matters podcast. The Tax Foundation produces the annual State Tax Competitiveness Index, which ranks Oregon only 35th in 2026. Oregon has dropped 27 places overall since 2020. No state has fallen as far during this period.
