What Looptworks does: In brief, Looptworks reduces textile industry waste by recycling both excess materials and end-of-life materials. Its fiber-to-fiber recycling process breaks down textiles into fibers, some of which are used by manufacturers to make new garments and other products. Fibers that can’t be made into new textiles are downcycled into nonwoven material, which can be used to make insulation, carpet padding and acoustic tiles, among other things.
Company History: Apparel industry veteran Scott Hamlin founded Looptworks in 2009 to recover some of the millions of pounds of excess textiles that find their way to landfills every year. In its early years, Looptworks focused on upcycling, transforming excess textiles into bags, backpacks and travel accessories. In 2023, Looptworks transitioned to a fully business-to-business model focused on recycling and downcycling material. Along the way, the company became a certified B Corp and, more recently, achieved Global Recycled Standard certification.
Location: Looptworks occupies a 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Gresham.
