What Carestream Makes in Oregon: Carestream’s facility in White City specializes in digital medical imaging film and contract manufacturing. The film produced in White City is used to print images captured by digital imaging devices. It is common in many countries outside of the United States for patients to maintain their own medical records, including hard copies of digital images. Ninety eight percent of the medical film produced by Carestream in White City serves markets outside the U.S. Carestream’s facility also manufacture products for others, including protective film used by the automotive industry to protect paint in wheel wells, on hoods and in other areas vulnerable to damage.
Location and employment: Carestream’s White City facility was built by 3M in the 1960s to apply coatings to many different products. It was subsequently acquired by Kodak, whose medical imaging group Carestream bought in 2007. Carestream employs more than 3,000 people worldwide and roughly 180 in White City.
