What Miles Fiberglass & Composites Makes: Family owned Miles Fiberglass & Composites specializes in custom work. It manufactures a wide variety of products, including wastewater infrastructure, panels used in refrigerated rail cars, components for RVs and travel trailers, enclosures for telecommunications equipment and parts for military vehicles. It also has taken on many unique projects over the years, including replica Sizzler steakhouse bull statues and a golf cart for Life Flight that looks like a helicopter. In addition to its manufacturing work, Miles Fiberglass & Composites operates a mobile repair service focused on wind turbines and electric buses.
Company History: Miles Fiberglass & Composites was founded in 1963 by Lowell Miles, who developed an interest in composites when, as a student at Portland’s Benson High School, he spotted a fiberglass hull at a boat show. In the company’s early days, it made canoes, garden ponds and vents for air conditioning units. Its big break came in the form of a contract to make fiberglass hoods for Freightliner trucks.
Location and Employment: Miles Fiberglass & Composites employs about 60 people at its 93,000-square-foot facility in Clackamas. It also employees wind turbine fiberglass-repair technicians across the country.
